Google bar code logo latest in ‘doodle’ line

Today, the usual Google logo has been replaced by the ubiquitous black-and-white bar code design to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the first bar code patent.

On October 7, 1952, inventors Norman Woodland and Bernard Silver were granted the first patent for their invention.

German kids hand out lost 15,000 euros in playground

Children in a school in Germany had a day to remember this week when four pupils found around 15,000 euros (22,000 dollars) and then handed it out to their friends in the playground, police said Friday.

The four, two boys and two girls aged between 10 and 13, found the bundle of cash stuffed in a dirty brown envelope on the way into their school in Frankfurt on Tuesday morning.

Men are bigger liars than women

Believe it when women say their partners are bigger liars than them, for a new survey has revealed that males tell twice as many lies as females.

The survey by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment to mark the launch of Lie to Me Season 1 on DVD, revealed that men tell six fibs a day on average to their partner, boss and work colleagues.

Bolivians told no anti-flu masks to avoid bank heists

Bolivian banks have banned customers from wearing masks on their premises, in a bid to curb an epidemic of robberies by people taking advantage of swine flu fears to hide their faces.

"We have decided that only staff can wear masks, while clients can no longer enter with masks," Hoggier Hurtado, president of the federation of savings banks in the central city of Santa Cruz, told El Dia newspaper.

Tampa, Florida -- While most banks require a thumbprint to cash a check from someone who doesn't have an account, a Tampa man says that policy was impossible to comply with.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A 34-year-old man is in custody after authorities say he gave a teller his account number and showed her his picture ID before robbing an Anchorage bank.

13 years old boy could get 21 years in US jail

He is the youngest person to be accused of robbing a bank that many in this midwestern US town can remember, and now he could end up spending a good chunk of his life behind bars.
A judge in the juvenile court, noting the premeditation and the “extremely aggressive” manner in which Denote Moore, 13, pointed an unloaded handgun at several bank tellers last month, ordered his case be moved to adult court.

Marine Corps bans troops from Facebook, Twitter

The U.S. Marine Corps banned use of social web sites such as Twitter and Facebook on its networks, citing security risks.

“These Internet sites in general are a proven haven for malicious actors and content and are particularly high risk due to information exposure, user generated content and targeting by adversaries,” said the order banning use of the sites for one year.

Husband Peeks At Christmas Gifts, Wife Stabs Him

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (AP) ― A woman stabbed her husband with a kitchen knife following an argument that began when she accused him of opening a Christmas present early, authorities said Friday.

Misty Johnson, 34, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and battery, a felony, and misdemeanor domestic battery. Her husband, Shawn Fay Johnson, 34, was treated at a local hospital for a wound to the chest and released, police said.
